how to engage for children
(kindergarten-5th)
-
sunday school
Kindergarten-5th grade Sunday School takes place in the classroom labeled "The Dock." Sunday School is taught by the Director of Ministries to Children & Families, Bess Williams. Studies covered are closely tied to the scripture that is the focus during Sunday worship. Children study the same scripture as those in worship so that everyone in the family can discuss and contribute to conversations about the day's scripture lesson and sermon.
-
children's church
The Children's Moment is a special time for children during our worship service. This is a mini-sermon that is geared towards the children's understanding of the scripture lesson of the day. Immediately following the Children's Moment- we have Children's Church in the room labeled "The Dock" until worship is over. Parents can pick up their children in The Dock. Children's Church lessons are a way to further reinforce the point of the daily scripture. This is accomplished through the use of scripture reading, videos, craft projects and even science experiments!
-
participate in worship
Children are encouraged to take part in our worship services through choir participation, scripture reading, acolyting (candle lighting) and even handing out bulletins. During the holidays there are many more opportunities on specials day such as Easter or The Hanging of the Greens.
how to engage for youth
(6th-12th grade)
-
attend & participate in worship
All ages are encouraged to attend worship services regularly. Youth individuals are also welcome to participate in several aspects of worship should they be interested. Singing in the choir, reading scripture and serving on the ushering team are several examples of ways that youth serve in worship currently.
-
participate in missions & outreach
There are many opportunities to serve through First Cumberland. Finding how you can use your God given gifts and talents is one way you can be an active part of the First Cumberland family.
-
youth activities and outings
Our Youth Director, Sarah Quattrochi, plans youth activities and outings, such as our "First Sunday Adventures" for convenient days and times for youth and their families. We use input from our families to decide when and where activities and outings will be. Examples of outings include bowling, service projects, hiking and fellowship through sharing a meal.
connecting adults
Sunday school classes are offered for adults each Sunday from 9:45-10:45 am. Both of our classes have a wide variety of age levels.
Combined J. Fred Johnson/McAllester Class/New Hope class - Chapel
Pastor Courtney Krueger and Elder Bruce Antman help guide this combined adult class through the Cumberland Presbyterian “Encounter” Adult Bible Study Resource.
Friendship Class - Room #215
The Friendship class is discussion-based utilizing the Cumberland Presbyterian “Encounter” Adult Bible Study Resource.
senior adult ministry
Seniors are more active than ever before. For this reason, we offer opportunities for Seniors to form meaningful relationships with one another while affirming their faith in Jesus Christ. In addition to Sunday School classes (9:45 a.m.) and Sunday morning Worship (11 a.m.) we offer Seniors outings such as Galloping Gourmets and Sunday Lunch Bunch. In addition, we have activities organized by our Women's and Men's Ministries.
